I don't know why I chose to visit the Statue of Liberty on a Saturday morning.  When we arrived at the Battery Park, there was already a long queue.  It took us about 2 hours to get on board of the ferry.

Of course, there was no way that you could find a seat on the ferry.  When we saw long queues again on Liberty Island, my colleague and I decided not set our foot on the Island.  We just took pictures from the ferry.

Visiting the United Nations and watching Beauty and the Beast were our itinerary today.

First, we went to have our breakfast and last preparation before we went to the UN. Yes, preparation. My colleague told me that UN has its own Post Office and stamps, so we decided to send some postcards there. We took about one and a half hour to finish our breakfast, eating only occupied about 15 minutes.

When we arrived, we had to go inside a tent and go through all the standard security procedures, like having your bag x-rayed and you going through the metal detector. People carrying backpacks and big bags cannot enter the building unless they let the security keep them for you.

Once we got inside, there was something that interested us.

Everyone says 5th Avenue is a must-go place in New York.  Then I say "Les Miserables" is a must-see musical classic.

Today, I did both what I must do in New York.

We walked down the Fifth Avenue from 57th Street.   The first store we visited is the Apple Store.

People from all corners of the globe say HK is a city that never sleeps.  Perhaps they haven’t been to New York.  If they have been to New York, they will agree that HK is nothing compared to it.

Tonight was my first night experiencing the night life of New Yorkers.    My colleague and I went to see the musical “A Chorus Line”.

The plot is about a group of dancers audition for a new Broadway show.  All of them have only one dream - get a job as a dancer.  The story tells the laughter, sweat, and tears of these dancers.  The singing of the performers was excellent and the dancing was fantastic as well.  However, compared with the classics “Les Miserables” and “The Phantom of the Opera”, it seemed a bit short.  It only lasts for two hours and there is no intermission.

If you buy the programme of this musical, you can have a free bag.

The red one is the programme and the small one is given for free when the usher leads you to your seat.

Life starts after the musicals.

Exploring the American Museum of Natural History was supposed to be one of our goals today. We bought a 7-day pass Metro Card and headed uptown to 81st Street.

Compared with the New York Metro, the MTR and KCR in Hong Kong are much cleaner and saver.

Once you get off the train, you can take the exit directly leads you to the entrance of the Museum. There is more than one entrance to the Museum. The Metro one is on the first floor.

Originally, we planned to spend the morning only in the Museum. However, when we were buying the tickets, the receptionist told us that there were some exhibitions and shows which the entrance fee did not cover. The entrance fee should be US$15 but if you want to get access to all the exhibitions and shows, there is a supersaver pass which costs US$30. These shows and exhibitions include a movie about Dinosaurs in the iMax Theatre, a space show about cosmic collision and exhibitions on frogs and mythic creatures. Since my colleauge and I both love dinosaurs and according to some guide books, the space show is a must-see, we bought the supersaver pass. Because of this decision, we left the museum at about 3:30pm.

If you take the entrance at Central Park West, you will see the following.

Do you find the above tyrannosaur familiar? I bet it's the one you saw in the move "Night at the Museum". But now, the tyrannosaur has some more companies.

This is my second time to the USA in the year 2007. The first time, I went to a small town, Kentucky, for exchange purpose. This time, I am at a big city, New York, with my colleague, and I am just having fun myself.

On arrival, my impression with the immigration at the airport was not very good. There was a long queue and the officer perhaps got a tough day (I happened to see he trashed two big cups of coffee). He looked bored and didn't bother to talk to me. He just signaled me to put my index fingers of both hands onto the machine and look at the camera. He didn't say a word! Well, that's fine. At least, I got processed very quickly.

The hotel was another disappointment. With the money I paid, I did expect it to be a bit more decent. Perhaps here is really New York.

This shows you the size of the room. I took it at the door.

The bathroom.

And here is the view from the end of the room to the door.

I arrived at the hotel at about 4 o'clock. After settling down, my colleague and I hurried out as we wanted to get cheap tickets for broadway musicals.
