整句例子我已記不起是怎樣,只記得有錯的部份是這樣的:my mother and father was doing …

當然,受訪者(不知一共訪問了多少人,也不知是否所有人也答對,這裡是指節目播出的所有受訪者,包括有學生,OL等)均能指出錯誤所在。正確句子應為:my mother and father were doing …

可笑的是那講師說有一位考生竟改成:my father and mother was …

能正確地指出錯誤是該卷的其中一項要求而已,考生還要解釋為何要作出這樣的改正。以上句為例,句子中的主體(subject)是 my mother and father,是一個複數主體 (plural subject),所以要用複數動詞 (plural verb)。

結果,我們所有人不單只合格,更拿了 merit(整體有四分或以上的成績;一分為最差,五分為最高)。當然傳媒沒有興趣報導我們,他們繼續集中報導低合格率。

老實說,這基準試 的要求真的一點也不低。我們要考五份卷,分別是 Reading, Writing, Listening, Speaking 及 Classroom Language。五份卷中,Writing 再分為 Organisation and coherence, Grammatical accuracy, Task completion, Correcting errors/problems 及 Explaining errors/problems 等五部份。Speaking 一卷又細分為六部份(Pronunciation, stress and intonation; Reading aloud with meaning; Grammatical accuracy; Organisation and cohesion; Interacting with peers; Explaining language matters to peers)。Classroom Language 又分四部份(Grammatical accuracy; Prounciation, stress and intonation; The language of interaction; the language of instruction)。

分這麼多部份幹嗎?讓你知道合格老師的水準有多 高!何為之合格,就是老師要在所有卷中(包括細分之項目)均能拿到三級或以上的成績!當中最難的卷目也就是及格率最低的卷目 - Explaining errors/problems。有多難?讓我給各位一些例題,你們便略知一二。(選自考評局出給預備應考基準試的人的評核綱要)

網友請嘗試改正及作出解釋!(只須改有間線的句子。)

You went to Canada to study about four months. Do you enjoy your school life? Is busy or not? Is there very cold? When I change a new school in this year, I'm very afraid. Because in there, I haven't any friends. I don't know their play with me or not.

She know me is a new student, when I have any problem in my lesson or homework, she must teach me. He like our friend more than a teacher, because she very friendly and unlike other teacher always punish the student, when we do some wrong thing.

答案改天揭曉。

[11] This education system sucks

When I saw the examples you quoted above, I was quite annoyed but this so called "benchmark test".
I am now taking a course in TESOL so that I can teach English classes. The very first thing I learned about was context. In day to day speech and writing, context, that is, what the person wants to say or ask determines how that sentence should be formed.
That part about "change school" is horrid because it is totally removed from the context of the situation, and you can get quite a number of answers, which don't really help.

Yes, the paper 'classroom language' involves classroom observation. Non-serving teacher can't take this paper. That's why EDB requires those who want to enter the field of education to take all other four papers before they are employed as a qualified English teacher. However, once they get their job, they have to apply for the paper in order to attain the benchmark.

Well, I don't know if the teacher can speak in Cantonese during the assessment. Since you will be informed beforehand when the examiner will arrive, you should have enough time to prepare for the lesson and train the students. By the way, simple English is definitely allowed if the level of students is weak. As the aim of the test is to see if teachers have the ability to use English as a medium of instruction in teaching.

wondered if i could ask u:

does the paper "classroom language" involve classroom observation? if so, then non-serving teachers can't take it? or if students are no good at english, the teacher has to speak in some cantonese, then how is his/ her language assessed?
appreciate it if you could help me out to clarify this!

老實說,如果連線上的英文錯誤都指不出,我很懷疑那位老師是否真的懂英文.

這不禁讓我回想,在我就讀小學的時侯,有位老師被一位小學同學指出英文有誤,後來還要那位同學解釋來明白錯了甚麼…

如果不懂英文,就不要在教壇騙飯吃,以免誤人子弟,且會有報應呀!

For us in the finance field, we like to take exams, such as the CFA and CFP, because they give us sense of prestige. Also, it creates barrier of entry so that only people with a certain standard will stay in the field. Besides public exams, there are also internal exams we need to pass to stay in the job.
My colleague and I are now doing an MBA and we plan to go for the DBA afterwards. So, it will be exam, exam, exam. Just need to get used to it.

1 When I change a new school in this year
The Change here is rather confusing, the reader may find it hard to understand whether the writer
1. change from one school to another
2. promote to another school

My correction:
When I change from my old school to a new one, blah blah blah…

2 I don’t know their play with me or not.
I dunno whether they would (like to) play with me or not

3 She know me is a new student, when I have any problem in my lesson or homework, she must teach me.

Who the hell is she? The student’s GF?! or the gal sitting next to the writer? It’s so CONFUSING!
Its her job to teach me (If she is a Teacher. Teachers job s to teach. But it sounds so rude…)
If the SHE stands for Teacher, I can say:
She would give me a hand.
My neighbor is very kind, she always gives me a hand. (Neighbor Ver.)

4 He like our friend more than a teacher, because she very friendly and unlike other teacher always punish the student, when we do some wrong thing. (I dont think this sentence ends here)

I dont know whether the teacher is he or she (well, theres so-called Dog Teacher, is it possible to say IT?! Anyway…)
If the SHE in the previous sentence meant the TEACHER then I think it’s:
She is our friend more than our teacher as she is very friendly. Unlike other teachers who always punish students immediately when they do sth wrong, (she teaches us patiently.)

Johnathan, the whole passage is a real composition from a student.

In the LPAT examintaion, we only have 2 hours to finish this writing task. Within this time limit, we have to write a composition, correct a student’s composition and explain all the corrections.

If we have to correct all the mistakes in the composition and explain all of them, just for doing this part, the HKEAA has to give us 3 hours. Remember I told you in the class, when I marked some horrible work from your classmates, I had to spend an hour on each piece of substandard work. But I didn’t have to explain the corrections!!!

By the way, I miss Jenny’s and your composition. Five minutes is all I need!

1. When I change a new school (X) this year

usage? “this year” is already adverbial?

2. I don’t know (whether they will) play with me or not.

Will it be also correct to use “their playing”???

3. she (has to) teach me.

not an order

4. He (is) like our friend more than a teacher, because she (is) very friendly and unlike other teacher(s) (who) always punish the student, when we do some wrong thing(s).

(is) - “like” is an adjective here.
(is) - The clause lacks a verb.
teacher(s) - plural noun/pronoun follows “other”.
(who) - “who” as a relative pronoun to be the subject of the clause.
thing(s) - I’m not sure if (-s) is needed.
