My Sister's Keeper captures my heart!

I love the book because it is full of surprises.  For a long time, I have not read a book with an unpredictable twist in the plot.

In her book, Jodi has dealt with a moral dilemma - if your daughter suffered from leukemia and the only way that may save her was to conceive another one whose bone marrow matched hers, would you do so?  Is it morally acceptable to let someone live at the expense of another person's human rights?

Anna was born as a lifesaver of her sister, Kate.  At the age of 13, she has already undergone numerous surgeries in order to sustain her sister's life.  If you were Anna, would you be willing to lead such a life?

The story starts with Anna's decision to sue her parents for the rights to her own body.  As the plot goes on, Jodi reveals the problems the parents of this family is neglecting.  Since the sick child has drawn all the attention of the parents, Anna's and her brother's needs are never high on her parents' list of priorities.  Mingled with the desperateness for the long deprived love and despair, Anna's brother, Jesse, has become an arsonist, with his father being a firefighter as the irony.  Perhaps this is his own way to seek for attention and vengeance.  As for Anna, she sought for a lawsuit.

When the case has finally taken to the court, readers would be taken with more revelations about the characters, especially about Kate, Anna, and Campbell (Anna's lawyer).

I cried my eyes out when I was reading the last few chapters.  The book is a page-turner and is easy to read.  If you haven't read any of Jodi Picoult's books, you may start with this one.  I'm sure you cannot help continuing to read her other books as well!

Last week, I finished my second book of hers - Nineteen Minutes.

It is a book exploring the problem of bullying in schools.  Can you imagine some people were born to be bullied, even though they had never done any wrongs?  Peter is a kind-hearted and sensitive boy but on his first day to school, he was picked on.  Throughout his school life, the bullies never leave him alone.  Finally, one day, in nineteen minutes, Peter took his revenge.   Another thought-provoking book that one can't miss.

Now I am reading my third book of hers - The Vanishing Act.

(The exact version that I'm reading)
